Quawan's body was found several days later in a sugarcane field. He was face down in shallow water and naked.

After his death, authorities received surveillance from a home across the street showing Quawan willingly getting into the car of a friend and his mother, Janet and Gavin Irvin.

Janet Irvin was arrested in February 2021 in connection with Quawan's disappearance and subsequent death.
